Hevva! Hevva!...

Hevva! was the cry that echoed from cliff-tops as the great pilchard shoals were sighted, ‘a stain of red, purple and silver in the water’. This was the call of the ‘huer’, summoning fishermen to their boats in the bountiful days of the Cornish fishing industry.

Well, Hevva might be the cry again at Lower Treave this year as we were talking to Elaine @StevensonNewlyn today about bringing fresh fish to the park ready for your barbecues or packed for the journey home. Who knows, they might even come up one evening and show us how to cook it!

Stevensons have been fishing from Newlyn for over one hundred years, catching many species of fresh local fish. They have their own fleet of boats, two fresh fish shops, a wholesale/export side and are now expanding their fish by courier (next day delivery service) anywhere in the country by web site or phone. Campers at Lower Treave can visit their shops and collect their fish packed in a leak proof poly box with ice. Barbecues when camping are the 'go to' cooking method and when possible they always stock Bass, Mackerel, Red Mullet, Monkfish Scallops, Prawns and Hake ready for the grill. They can also supply freshly cooked shellfish. If demand is there, they can come to the site with fresh fish to sell direct or deliver orders which have been phoned through to the shop.
