NEW BOOTS...!

New boots all round. In our family, everybody gets treated equally....so, if I have new boots, the truck has to have new boots!

Mine are a rather splendid pair of Berghaus Explorer Treks (goretex, Flex Groove...blah, blah, blah...) from probably the best camping shop in the world...BCH Camping of Trowbridge, Chippenham and Bath. If you're serious about camping, and loads of other stuff too, then you need to visit BCH. The staff are friendly, helpful and actually know about camping (I trained one of them myself for 18 years). They also do mail order and have a great website at http://www.bchcamping.co.uk/ where they are currently giving 20% discount on your first internet order! Go on...get yourself some new kit...you know you want to! The truck on the other hand will shortly be sporting a new set of wheels and tyres. I say new...but in line with our re-cycling policy, I have decided to try remoulds. I did a bit of research on the net, and we chuck a phenomenal quantity of used tyres into landfill. There is an alternative which is to remould a new tread onto a used carcass and effectively re-life the tyre. Now...in the past this has been seen as a bit of a questionable practice....safety issues, poor wear rates etc...but new legislation now requires that remoulds pass the same set of criteria that new tyres do...so it should be a no-brainer. I am not advocating that everybody goes out and buys retreads, particularly if you are driving some high performance super car. However, if your use involves tootling to town, the occasional shimmy down to the shops or a quick chasse around to the Mother-in-Law's then these might do the trick. Will let you know how we get on with them.

The tyres are a little more conservative than the rather exotic ones which the truck arrived with and they will be fitted to a simple steel workaday wheel. The former tyres and wheels will be 'recycled' to a new owner with a greater need for street cred than a working camp site truck.

Perhaps I should have got my old boots re-soled? By the way, the majority of buses and lorries on the road and nearly all aircraft run on remould tyres!

Yesterday afternoon we were delighted to be invited to the opening reception of the new premises of our accountants Walker Moyle in Penzance.

The striking building sits comfortably within its surroundings and boasts numerous 'eco' features to reduce its carbon footprint. We loved the open and airy working spaces and the buzz that a move like this gives a company.

Thanks to the Partners for their kind invitation and to staff for their warm welcome. An excellent addition to the business life of Penzance.

Setting out this morning from Lower Treave to walk to John 'O' Groats is Mr John Burford. Pictured here (left) with his son and support driver, Colin, and their trusty van 'Marigold', John aims to complete the trip in 3 months and is raising money for the 'Help for Heroes' charity. EXOTIC VISITOR???

Spotted this on the low wall just outside the ladies toilets on Friday (3rd April). It might...just might...be a female Emperor Moth .... I have emailed Ian at ukmoths for confirmation. 1643 Emperor Moth Saturnia pavonia (Linnaeus, 1758) Wingspan 40-60 mm.The spectacular Emperor moth is Britain's only resident member of the Saturniidae family. It is reasonably common over much of Britain, occupying moorland and open country.The males, which have bright orange hindwings, fly during the daytime in search of the greyer females, which fly at night. Both sexes are on the wing in April and May.The fully grown caterpillar is green with black hoops containing yellow wart-like spots, and feeds on moorland plants such as heather (Calluna) and bramble (Rubus). http://ukmoths.org.uk/show.php?id=251 Probably popped in for a drink from the Bellamy Butterfly Bar! END OF THE SEASON...START OF THE SEASON

As we start our season at Lower Treave, the rugby season is coming to an end. We have really enjoyed sponsoring Peter Cook of the Cornish Pirates this year; not a great season for the team, finishing mid-table and a few 'management issues' along the way, but always good to see top level sport in Cornwall and always next year to look forward to. Just three games left now, all at home: Plymouth Albion (12th April), Doncaster (19th April) and London Welsh (25th April). Thanks Cookie and good luck! .

RUNNING A BATH!

Looking good at the start... ...may do this one-legged...

The supporters wait patiently.... ...there she was...gone...too fast for the camera! Nic completed the Bath Half Mararthon in 2Hr 13m and raised £190 for the RNLI and £85 for the Boom Shewula Wula charity for aids orphans in Swaziland, which the girls have been involved with since their days on the International Baccalaureate at Truro College. Well done Nic and Lorna!

Probably the only person we would let loose with a back hoe next to a brand new caravan, John Nankervis has resurfaced all the tracks on the park. ...bound to be a good summer now! .

DIGITAL DOINGS

For those of you travelling with a TV this year, don't forget that digital switchover is happening at different times around the country. For us in West Cornwall, Switchover Stage One is on 8 July and Stage Two on 5 August. So if you are bringing a TV with you on holiday this summer, make sure that it is a digital TV or pack the set top box and bring that along too. If you have booked into one of our holiday caravans, they are all equipped with digital TV/DVD and we will do all the retuning for you on the appropriate dates.
